My Soul

I’m too afraid to let you in

To let you see my soul from within.

The sky is completely dark,

The ground too cracked to embark.

Even I am hesitant to traverse

The small place as black as a curse.

From afar the river of my mind is so slow

But as you get closer, the dangerous water flows.

When you feel ready to scream

Open your mouth to find my worst dream

As nothing can escape past your lips

The hope you’ll get out alive slowly rips.

Search for comfort in the only place you find,

My childhood home where my sins overtake your mind.

When you think you’ve finally had enough

Cower in the corner-days pass-you no longer feel tough.

Admit defeat-you’re done and want to go home

My soul will release you from its terrifying dome.

By the time you get out it’s too late.

You run away for a girl with a cleaner slate.
